The Tiverton Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Scituate Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Tiverton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Tiverton fell victim to Case and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Cardinals: they've now lost four in a row.
Meanwhile, Scituate waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Patriots. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Aiden Ouillette made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Ouillette was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Quinn Liptrot looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Scituate let Travis Howman and Jackson Scanlon run wild. Howman got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Scanlon went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Scituate is 7-1 when Howman posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Paul Zolkos, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Tiverton now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Scituate, their record is now 12-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tiverton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Scituate struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tiverton came out on top in a nail-biter against Scituate in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, sneaking past 9-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
