Football Recap: Gladewater Starts Season with Victory Against Daingerfield

Gladewater had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took down the Daingerfield Tigers 21-7 on Thursday. The Bears have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

Gladewater's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Achilles Hess led the charge by rushing for 38 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Carsin Cooper helped out on the ground, rushing for 80 yards and a rushing touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gladewater was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 167 rushing yards in six consecutive games dating back to last season.

Gladewater didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Landen King and Madaxx Vasquez. Vasquez has been hot recently, having posted at least one interception the last three times he's played. Another thorn in Daingerfield's side was Amarion Minter, who picked up two sacks, forced one fumble, and made four total tackles.

Gladewater has already played their next match, a 43-15 win against New Diana on the 5th. As for Daingerfield, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-30 loss against Tatum on the 4th.
