Softball Game Preview: New Paltz Huguenots vs. Marlboro Central Dukes

New Paltz is 0-10 against Marlboro Central since May of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Huguenots will host the Dukes at 4:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

New Paltz barely beat Our Lady of Lourdes the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Huguenots never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Wednesday.

Gabby Torre made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Torre wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Gates, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two hits gave Gates a new career-high. Another was Madison Braren, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

New Paltz kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Marlboro Central strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Red Hook.

Marlboro Central pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for New Paltz, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
