Baseball Game Preview: Decatur Eagles vs. Boyd Yellowjackets

The Decatur Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Boyd Yellowjackets at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Decatur's victory against Castleberry wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Decatur came out on top in a nail-biter against Castleberry on Friday, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since May 9, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Jed Ross, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Hayden Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Boyd came tearing into Friday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. That looming 13-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Yellowjackets yet this season.

Boyd pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Decatur, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-12-1.

Decatur suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Boyd in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can Decatur avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
