Baseball Game Preview: Cypress Centurions vs. Villa Park Spartans

The Cypress Centurions will take on the Villa Park Spartans at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Cypress is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Cypress can't be too worried about heading out to take on Villa Park: they just beat Foothill at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Centurions walked away with an 8-5 win over the Knights on Friday.

Meanwhile, Villa Park owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They came out on top against La Serna by a score of 4-0.

Villa Park got a great performance from Logan Hoppie as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. Hoppie has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Villa Park saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jesse Olivan-Vazquez, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Dylan Malkemus also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Cypress' record is now 19-5. As for Villa Park, their record now sits at 16-7-1.

Cypress skirted past Villa Park 5-3 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Centurions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
