Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Takes a Loss

Roosevelt lost against Highland back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Roosevelt Rough Riders fell to the Highland Hornets 60-54. While losing is never fun, the Rough Riders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 508th, while the Hornets are ranked 59th).

Defeat or not, Roosevelt got some senior leadership from Jaden Dennison and Ryan Slocum. Dennison went 8 of 17 en route to 19 points and six steals, while Slocum went 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points. That's the most points Slocum has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Foreman, who posted five points.

Roosevelt has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Highland, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will venture away from home to face off against Aurora at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Highland, they will take on Revere at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Highland's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.
