Bentley Johnson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Jordan Stump made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Green, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Liberty Christian Academy entered their tilt with Madison Christian on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past Madison Christian 11-2. That looming 11-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Liberty Christian Academy yet this season.
Like Granville Christian Academy, Liberty Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Luke Mollohan. Throwing, Mollohan pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Dawson Kamppi pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Mollohan also tossed no walks, which is notable because Liberty Christian Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise. At the plate, Mollohan got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Kamppi got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Kamppi a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Dyer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Drew Fye was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Liberty Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Madison Christian only posted an OBP of .214.
Liberty Christian Academy pushed their record up to 4-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Granville Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Granville Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Liberty Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
