Softball Game Preview: Oblong Panthers vs. Altamont Indians

The Oblong Panthers will head out to square off against the Altamont Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Oblong has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Oblong saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell just short of Lawrenceville by a score of 11-10. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Indians: they've now lost nine in a row.

Landee Clark stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Maggie Bailey was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Altamont came up short against Mulberry Grove on Wednesday and fell 4-1.

Sophia Long spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.

Oblong now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Altamont, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-9 record this season.

Oblong couldn't quite get it done against Altamont in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 as they fell 3-0. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
