Basketball Recap: Briarwood Christian Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Briarwood Christian and Marbury squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Briarwood Christian had to settle for second. They fell 49-42 to the Marbury Bulldogs.

When it comes to explaining why Briarwood Christian lost, don't look at Ann Tatum Baker. Despite the final result, she went 5-for-11 en route to 17 points. Grace Garrett was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.

Marbury's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justice Blackmon, who went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc on her way to 21 points. The dominant performance also gave Blackmon a new career-high in field goal percentage (70%). Another player making a difference was Nunu Jernigan, who posted 11 points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Briarwood Christian's loss dropped their record down to 21-12. As for Marbury, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.

As of now, neither Briarwood Christian nor Marbury have any future games scheduled.
