Softball Recap: Hughesville's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Hughesville hadn't done well against Midd-West recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Spartans never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won five games in a row.

Not much got past Ella Breneisen, who gave up just two hits to keep Midd-West off the board. Breneisen has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maddie Smith was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Adelyn Knight, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Hughesville lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Hughesville's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Midd-West, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hughesville will venture away from home to square off against Southern Columbia Area at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Midd-West, they will square off against Mifflinburg at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
