Baseball Game Preview: Raytown Bluejays vs. Grain Valley Eagles

Raytown is 1-8 against Grain Valley since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Bluejays will host the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Grain Valley took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Raytown, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with ten losses in a row, Raytown turned things around against Ruskin on Monday. They came out on top against the Golden Eagles by a score of 9-6.

William Buckman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on DeWane Williams, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Washington, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Raytown hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Grain Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Truman on Monday and fell 4-3. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Grain Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 15-11-1. As for Raytown, their victory bumped their record up to 3-12.
