Basketball Recap: Halifax Academy Takes a Loss

Halifax Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 62-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thales Academy Rolesville Knights. The Vikings were not able to make up for their defeat to the Knights from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Halifax Academy still got an impressive performance from Landon Peoples, who went 11 for 23 on his way to 28 points. That was a full 51.9% of Halifax Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Thad Harris was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points and six assists.

Even though they lost, Halifax Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Thales Academy Rolesville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tony Lopez, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 16 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Steffen, who had four points along with 12 boards and four steals.

Halifax Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Thales Academy Rolesville, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Halifax Academy will head out to take on Lawrence Academy at 8:00 p.m. on January 10th. As for Thales Academy Rolesville, they will venture away from home to challenge Friendship Christian at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Thales Academy Rolesville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.
