Recap: Lanesville Eagles vs. Evansville Memorial Tigers
It was a good run, but the Lanesville Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their 28-game winning streak dating back to last season on Friday. They fell 56-43 to Evansville Memorial. Lanesville lost against Evansville Memorial in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 51-46 score last time.
Lanesville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hylton Brumley, who scored six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Kerr, who scored 11 points.
Sophie Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Evansville Memorial, scoring 17 points. The game was Johnson's third in a row with at least ten points. Avery Kelley was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Lanesville's defeat dropped their record down to 14-1. As for Evansville Memorial, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.
Lanesville won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Corydon Central at 2:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Corydon Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Lanesville is ranked 26th). Evansville Memorial won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against South Knox on December 30, 2023. South Knox is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
