Baseball Recap: Scranton Prep Takes a Loss

Scranton Prep extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-10 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Abington Heights Comets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cavaliers of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Johnny Petrosky was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double.

In other batting news, AJ Croom made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run. Another player making a difference was Aiden Straw, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for Abington Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games.

On Abington Heights' side, Finn Goldberg looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Evan Gonzalez, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Zalewski, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

While Scranton Prep had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
