Basketball Recap: West Elk Drops Highest Score of Season Against Sedan

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Elk). They claimed a resounding 72-44 victory over the Sedan Devils. With the Patriots ahead 39-18 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Leading West Elk to victory were Garett Usry and Maddex Moreno. Usry on his way to 26 points and five steals, while Moreno to rack up 18 points along with six steals and five assists. Moreno has become a key player for West Elk: the team is undefeated when he posts at least five steals, but 7-9 otherwise. Gage Cook was another key player, putting up four points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: West Elk was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sedan only seven assists.

Several Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jackson Dowell, who posted ten points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Brycen Dickens, who earned 13 points.

West Elk's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Sedan, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-12.

West Elk didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-49 loss against Argonia on the 21st. As for Sedan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-39 victory against St. Paul on the 20th.
