Softball Game Preview: Tonganoxie Chieftains vs. Atchison Phoenix

Tonganoxie is a perfect 4-0 against Atchison since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Chieftains will welcome the Phoenix at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Monday, it was close, but Tonganoxie sidestepped Jefferson West for a 2-1 win.

Meanwhile, while Atchison put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Washington. The Phoenix were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Wildcats. The Phoenix might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by 11 runs or more this season.

Kelsey Rebant was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Andi Estes, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Atchison hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington struck out six times.

Tonganoxie has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Atchison, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-6.

Everything went Tonganoxie's way against Atchison when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Tonganoxie made off with a 16-1 victory. Will the Chieftains repeat their success, or do the Phoenix have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
