League recap: First place up for grabs as Boonville and Marshall jockey for top spot

North Central Missouri league recap: 3/27/13

League leaders Marshall (2-0 in North Central Missouri play, 2-1 overall) and Boonville (1-0, 1-0) will look to grab hold of first place in the standings this week.

Top honors in the league this week go to the Owls, which finished with two wins overall, good for best in the league. Marshall beat Fulton 9-2.

The Owls' pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only 13 hits and six walks, both of which led the league.

The league boasted three .400 hitters over the past week. They were led by Zach Bishop, who hit .571 this week (4-for-7).

The week's strikeout crown belonged to Preston Miller, who turned in eight Ks for Kirksville. With 12 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks first in the league.



Miller struck out eight in the Tigers' 10-1 win over Moberly on March 22. Over his five innings pitched he allowed one run on five hits.
