Baseball Recap: Ruidoso Takes a Loss

Ruidoso fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against New Mexico Military Institute on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Colts by a score of 10-9. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 11-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Trenton Hall and Joel Ortega stepped up to the plate in a big way. Hall went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Ortega scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Ortega is becoming a predictor of Ruidoso's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-1 (and 2-10-1 when he doesn't). Mason Fikany was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Ruidoso's loss dropped their record down to 7-11-1. As for New Mexico Military Institute, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6.

Coming up, Ruidoso will square off against Bosque at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Warriors are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for New Mexico Military Institute, they will take on Sandia Prep at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Colts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sundevils have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
