Baseball Recap: New Holstein Comes Up Short

New Holstein dropped their record down to 6-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the St. Mary's Springs Ledgers by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Huskies of the 1-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

New Holstein saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Jurgensmier, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for St. Mary's Springs, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games.

On St. Mary's Springs' side, Ben Anderson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. Anderson also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Ledgers are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-3 otherwise.

Looking ahead, New Holstein will head out on the road to square off against Sheboygan Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Huskies are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for St. Mary's Springs, they will square off against Cedar Grove-Belgium at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
