Preview: Bloomington Purple Raiders vs. Champaign Central Maroons
The Bloomington Purple Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the Champaign Central Maroons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bloomington has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Bloomington scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Danville 65-21 at home. With Bloomington ahead 38-9 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Bloomington found their leader in underclassman Christina Lenard, who scored 18 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lenard has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josie Skeate, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Champaign Central suffered their biggest loss since November 25, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Springfield, falling 72-39.
Bloomington's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-13. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Champaign Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Bloomington couldn't quite finish off Champaign Central when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 62-60. Can Bloomington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
