Softball Recap: Saguaro Wins Going Away Against Mesquite

While Saguaro put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Mesquite. Saguaro blew past Mesquite 12-0. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Sabercats also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Malina Morones made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Kaiya Maywalt and Hailey Holliday did most of the damage at the plate: Maywalt went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Holliday scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Sophia Chiouinard, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Saguaro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in ten consecutive matches.

Saguaro is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Mesquite and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

Saguaro will have a chance to go back-to-back against Mesquite: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
