Baseball Recap: Nine Straight Home Wins for Othello

Othello hadn't done well against Selah recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Huskies' pitchers stepped up to hand the Vikings an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Huskies have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Xzyyvn Martinez was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jordan Montemayor, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Othello hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.

Othello pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Selah, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-2.

Othello and Selah should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings. The Huskies will take on Ellensburg at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (28 vs. 98). Meanwhile, Selah (ranked eighth) will meet Quincy (ranked 244th) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
