Basketball Game Preview: Leadership Academy Falcons vs. Bishop McGuinness Villains

Leadership Academy is 0-9 against Bishop McGuinness since January of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Leadership Academy Falcons will look to defend their home court against the Bishop McGuinness Villains at 6:00 p.m.

Leadership Academy is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Carver, falling 39-19. The Falcons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 24-4.

The losing side was boosted by Briana Ramirez, who posted nine points and eight rebounds. Those eight boards gave her a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Bishop McGuinness put another one in the bag two weeks ago to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 65-24 win over Bethany Community. The Villains have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 20 points or more this season.

Leadership Academy better keep an eye on Adelaide Jernigan. She was instrumental in Bishop McGuinness' win, going 10 of 23 on her way to 27 points and six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Jernigan has scored at least a third of Bishop McGuinness' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Sullivan, who put up nine points.

Bishop McGuinness was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Bishop McGuinness' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 44.7 points. As for Leadership Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Leadership Academy might still be hurting after the 55-31 defeat they got from Bishop McGuinness in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Leadership Academy was down 38-17.
