Baseball Recap: Cate Rams vs. Academy of Careers & Exploration Eagle

If Cate was riding high fresh off their 19-12 takedown of Valley Christian Academy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cate fell just short of the Academy of Careers & Exploration Eagle by a score of 5-3 on Saturday. The Rams were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagle from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Peter Lehman put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Lehman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Lehman is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Lehman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noah Casbarro, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Casbarro is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season.

Cate's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Academy of Careers & Exploration, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cate will square off against Dunn at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Cate's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Academy of Careers & Exploration, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Victor Valley Christian at 3:15 p.m. on April 1.
