Basketball Recap: Bessemer City Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Josiah Guyton and Tristen Gordon

Bessemer City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. The game between them and the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons didn't end well, with the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets falling 93-76. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (58), the Yellow Jackets still had to take the loss.

Tristen Gordon and Josiah Guyton certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Gordon dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten assists, while Guyton went 9 of 18 on his way to 24 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Gordon is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Black, who posted 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Bessemer City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Bessemer City's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
