Softball Recap: Highland's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

Highland dropped their record down to 13-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 7-1 to the Andrean Fighting 59ers. The Trojans were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matches prior), but the Fighting 59ers' pitchers proved too tough.

Highland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Evie Rivera also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Andrean, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-6. The result was nothing new for the Fighting 59ers, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Andrean's side, Sadie Drousias made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Drousias has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddy McCoy, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Hite, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Looking ahead, Highland will head out to take on Munster at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Andrean, they will face off against Hanover Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
