Basketball Recap: Oceanside Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Oceanside can now relate to. They lost 66-41 to the Rancho Bernardo Broncos on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 764th, while the Broncos are ranked 352nd).

When it comes to explaining why Oceanside lost, don't look at Jaeliin Watts. Despite the final result, he posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Miller, who scored four points and five boards.

Rancho Bernardo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lucas Winkler led the charge by putting up 14 points. Another player making a difference was Evan Woodland, who had 12 points.

Oceanside has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-15 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Rancho Bernardo and bumps their season record up to 19-10.

Oceanside does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rancho Bernardo, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 63-52 victory against Mount Miguel on the 21st.
