Baseball Recap: Del Norte Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Del Norte had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Santana Sultans by a score of 7-4 on Monday. The Nighthawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Sultans, too.

Tyler Bieri looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Del Norte is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Richie Moore, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Griffen Gusich, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Del Norte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-7. As for Santana, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-9.

Coming up, Del Norte will venture away from home to face off against Mt. Carmel at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sundevils' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Nighthawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Santana, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
