The Canyon Crest Academy Ravens will take on the San Dieguito Academy Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Canyon Crest Academy was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Vista, sneaking past 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Ravens in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.
Grace Yao spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophie Kearse, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
San Dieguito Academy hadn't beaten El Camino on the road since March 18, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 7-5.
San Dieguito Academy also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lauryn McGarry gave up five earned runs on seven hits. McGarry has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Emi Adams was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Willow Wright was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
San Dieguito Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive contests.
San Dieguito Academy has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Canyon Crest Academy, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 12-9-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canyon Crest Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like San Dieguito Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Canyon Crest Academy skirted past San Dieguito Academy 7-6 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Ravens repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
