Softball Game Preview: Assumption Rockets vs. Henderson County Colonels

The Assumption Rockets will take on the Henderson County Colonels at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Assumption is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Assumption is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Male, who was ranked 13th at the time (Assumption was ranked sixth). The Rockets fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday. The Rockets' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Assumption saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Satterly, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Jaelynn Oaks was another, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Henderson County came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Braves an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Colonels, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Anna Kemp, who gave up just four hits to keep Tecumseh off the board.

At the plate, Henderson County let Lilly Bennett and Maggie Grogan run wild. Bennett went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one triple, while Grogan went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Grogan has posted since back in March.

Assumption's loss dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Henderson County, their victory was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-1.

Assumption might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Henderson County when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
