The Cosby Titans will venture away from home to square off against the James River Midlothian Rapids at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Cosby took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Monacan get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. Considering the Titans have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask James River Midlothian). They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Huguenot on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rapids considering their two-run performance the game before.
Zack Nicholas and Brian Consuegra made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Nicholas struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Consuegra struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Nicholas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Nicholas got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Consuegra went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Consuegra has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wil Camera, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Robert Walker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
James River Midlothian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cosby's record now sits at 8-4-1. As for James River Midlothian, their record is now 9-3.
Cosby took their victory against James River Midlothian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
