Basketball Game Preview: Abilene Eagles vs. Memorial Mavericks

For the first time this season, Abilene will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will challenge the Memorial Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Abilene has given up an average of 53.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Abilene is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight games on Tuesday. They were beaten by San Angelo Central 57-17. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1198th, while the Bobcats are ranked 266th).

Memorial not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since November 22, 2024 (when they won 58-25). They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lake View 51-20. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.

Abilene's defeat dropped their record down to 1-20. As for Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.

Abilene was able to grind out a solid victory over Memorial when the teams last played back in January of 2025, winning 42-34. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
