Volleyball Game Preview: Cross County Cougars vs. Amherst Broncos

The Cross County Cougars will square off against the Amherst Broncos at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cross County will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak.

Cross County can't be too worried about heading out to take on Amherst: they just beat Morrill at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. The Cougars skirted past the Lions 3-2.

Cross County wouldn't go down easily and took Morrill into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 16-14.

Meanwhile, Amherst made easy work of Niobrara/Verdigre on Saturday and carried off a 3-0 win.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Amherst took every set by at least 12 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-9, 25-13, 25-6.

Cross County better keep an eye on Breckyn Layne Veskerna. She was instrumental in Amherst's win, getting 24 digs. Layne Veskerna is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Addy Simmons, who had eight digs and seven kills.

Cross County's record is now 26-8. As for Amherst, their record now sits at 25-5.

Cross County might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Amherst when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
