Basketball Recap: Herrin Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jared Staple Jr. and Kyrese Lukens

After flying high against Mattoon last Wednesday, Herrin came back down to earth. The Herrin Tigers took a 61-43 bruising from the Centralia Orphans on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Orphans are ranked 27th).

Herrin's loss came despite strong showings from Kyrese Lukens and Jared Staple Jr.. Lukens posted 16 points, while Staple Jr. scored 13 points. Staple Jr. is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Grady Cox, who earned seven points.

Herrin's defeat dropped their record down to 24-8. As for Centralia, they pushed their record up to 28-4 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home.

As of now, neither Herrin nor Centralia have any future games scheduled.
