The Kennedy Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Rio Americano Raiders at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Kennedy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Kennedy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Lincoln 18-3 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Alyssa Vallery made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Vallery was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also stole a stolen base, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kira Griffin was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Gia Smith was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Kennedy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Rio Americano came up short against Oakmont on Wednesday and fell 17-12. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Taylor Galbreath made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of T Callas, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles.
The win got Kennedy back to even at 3-3. As for Rio Americano, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Kennedy skirted past Rio Americano 4-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kennedy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
