Softball Game Preview: Griffith Panthers vs. South Central Satellites

The Griffith Panthers will challenge the South Central Satellites at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Griffith is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Griffith fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hobart on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Brickies by a score of 2-1.

Griffith saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Vianello, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, South Central won against Washington Township on Monday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Satellites came out on top against Wheeler by a score of 7-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Satellites.

Lexi Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Valerie Horne, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Caitlin Allen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

South Central's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Griffith, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
