Basketball Recap: Tarkington Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses at Home

If Shepherd wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Tarkington, they should've done a better job of containing Layla Watson. The Tarkington Longhorns were the clear victor by a 48-25 margin over the Shepherd Pirates on Thursday thanks in part to Watson, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 22 rebounds. Watson is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least 13 every time she's taken the court this season.

The team also got some help courtesy of Monica Rodriguez, who posted five points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in boards.

Tarkington's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-13. As for Shepherd, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Hamshire-Fannett the next time they take the court. Shepherd will host Hamshire-Fannett at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Tarkington will head out to face them at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
