Softball Recap: New Bern Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

There's no place like home for New Bern, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They never let the Northwestern Wildcats get on the board and left with a 2-0 win on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.

Not much got past Molly McGuire, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Northwestern off the board. That's the most strikeouts McGuire has posted since back in February.

On the hitting side, New Bern saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Champey, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

New Bern pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Northwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, New Bern will be playing at home against D.H. Conley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (New Bern 2.7, D.H. Conley 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Northwestern, they are taking a road trip to challenge West Carteret at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. West Carteret will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Northwestern surely won't give up without a fight.
