Basketball Recap: Southern Durham Spartans vs. Carrboro Jaguars
The Southern Durham Spartans waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They managed a 46-42 win over Carrboro. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Southern Durham also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Briana Hughes continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Rah?shea Christopher, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the defeat, Carrboro saw an underclassman step up: Yazmin Paisant dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Carrboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Durham only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Southern Durham is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Carrboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.
Southern Durham won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. J.F. Webb will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 540th, while the Spartans are ranked 144th). As for Carrboro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vipers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Vance County is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
