Bruins win five state championships to build lead over Lone Peak of Utah, Bolles of Florida.
A longtime athletic powerhouse in Colorado,
Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village) has taken things to a new level this year, winning five state championships and emerging as the No. 1 school in the MaxPreps Cup rankings coming out of the fall sports season.
With 244 all-time state championships according to the CHSAA, Cherry Creek has more than double the number of titles of any other school in Colorado.
Cheyenne Mountain (Colorado Springs) comes in at No. 2 with 115.
Cherry Creek added to its state-best total of boys tennis state championships with its 47th this fall in addition to its 14th championship in football and titles in boys golf, boys soccer and girls field hockey. The Bruins were nationally-ranked for boys golf
(No. 9), boys soccer (No. 14), girls field hockey (No. 22) and girls
swimming (No. 25).

In the post-fall MaxPreps Cup standings, Cherry Creek finished nearly 200 points ahead of
Lone Peak (Highland, Utah), which won state championships in girls soccer, girls volleyball and girls cross country. The Knights also finished second in boys golf, football and girls tennis.
Behind the success of its swim teams,
Bolles (Jacksonville, Fla.) joined Cherry Creek and Lone Peak with over 1,000 points at 1,050. The Bulldogs won state championships in both boys and girls swimming and finished the season ranked No. 1 in the nation in both sports. The boys swimming team has won 37 straight state championships while the girls have won 35 in a row.
The MaxPreps Cup recognizes the top high school sports programs in the nation based on state championships, runner-up finishes and national rankings. Points are awarded based on size of state, popularity of sport, playoff enrollment division and number of teams in each playoff enrollment division. National rankings are compiled by MaxPreps in football, boys and girls soccer, field hockey, and volleyball.
