Baseball Game Preview: Covenant Christian Chargers vs. Coopersville Broncos

The Covenant Christian Chargers will take on the Coopersville Broncos at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Covenant Christian has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Coopersville will come in with three straight victories.

Monday just wasn't the day for Covenant Christian's offense. They came up short against Western Michigan Christian on Monday, falling 10-0. Surprisingly, this marked the Chargers' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Meanwhile, Coopersville was able to grind out a solid win over Wayland on Monday, taking the game 7-4. That's two games straight that the Broncos have won by exactly three runs.

Ethan Umlor made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Trenton Kloosterhouse was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Zach Velzen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Coopersville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.

Covenant Christian's loss dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Coopersville, their victory bumped their record up to 18-2-1.
