Softball Recap: A.L. Brown Triumphs

The home team had won the previous four meetings between A.L. Brown and Carson, and A.L. Brown kept the tradition alive. The Wonders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 4-0 shutout on Thursday. For the Wonders, this counts as revenge for the 8-7 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Mary Katherine Black made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kennedy Yow was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madyson Baker, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

A.L. Brown's record is now 7-3-1. As for Carson, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Coming up, A.L. Brown will head out to square off against Lake Norman at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wonders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Carson, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against West Rowan at 5:30 p.m. The Falcons will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
