Baseball Game Preview: Washington County Bulldogs vs. Leroy Bears

Washington County is 1-9 against Leroy since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Washington County will look to defend their home field against Leroy at 12:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Washington County fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Millry on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Landon Dearmon spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Washington County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ty Owens, who went 2-for-4 with one double. That double was Owens' first of the season.

Meanwhile, while it was Leroy who put the first points on the board on Wednesday, it was Excel who put up more. Leroy fell just short of Excel by a score of 5-3. The contest marked the Bears' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Washington County's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Leroy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 11-1.

Washington County might still be hurting after the 9-3 loss they got from Leroy when the teams last played back in February. Can Washington County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
