Basketball Recap: Cristian Botello's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Deerfield over Hodgeman County

After flying high against Rolla last Thursday, Deerfield came back down to earth. The Deerfield Spartans fell to the Hodgeman County Longhorns 49-44. The Spartans were down 49-29 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cristian Botello, who posted 11 points and five rebounds. Michael Lira was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 rebounds.

Hodgeman County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brody Schroeder out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Hazen Rydquist, who put up ten points.

Deerfield's record is now 1-1.

Deerfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 58-45 loss against Ingalls on the 9th. As for Hodgeman County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-19 win against Northern Valley on the 9th.
