Soccer Game Preview: Copper Canyon vs. Washington

The Copper Canyon Aztecs will square off against the Washington Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Copper Canyon will be strutting in after a win while Washington will be coming in after a loss.

Copper Canyon will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Sierra Linda on Tuesday. Copper Canyon blew past Sierra Linda 4-1. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Aztecs' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, Washington unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against Independence, falling 8-0. The Rams were red-hot offensively headed into the matchup (they scored no less than four goals in the four games prior) but the Patriots' defense proved too tough.

Copper Canyon's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3-1 and their overall record up to 5-5-1. As for Washington, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-2.

Copper Canyon took their win against Washington in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Copper Canyon since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
