Recap: Calvary Christian Knights vs. Springwood Wildcats
The Calvary Christian Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They fell 61-48 to Springwood. While losing is never fun, Calvary Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 348th in Georgia, while Springwood is ranked 33rd in Alabama).
Despite the defeat, Calvary Christian saw an underclassman step up: Tj Benson dropped a double-double on 31 points and 14 rebounds. Benson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Hocutt, who scored 6 points along with 14 rebounds and 3 steals.
Calvary Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Springwood racked up 14.
Springwood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Daniel Westbrook out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Westbrook has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. CJ Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Calvary Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Springwood, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.
Calvary Christian will head out on the road to face off against Lakeside School at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Springwood, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Valiant Cross Academy at 7:00 p.m. Valiant Cross Academy is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
