Volleyball Recap: Harding Falls Despite Big Games from Brooklyn Butchino and Amairany Villegas Lopes

After a string of three wins, Harding's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They lost 3-0 to the St. John Fighting Herald. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Herald this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in August.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-12, 25-19.

Amairany Villegas Lopes and Brooklyn Butchino certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Villegas Lopes had 13 digs and three aces, while Butchino had 15 digs and 11 assists. Butchino is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Juliana Murphy was another key player, getting nine digs.

St. John found their leader in sophomore Breelyn Graham, who had 12 assists and six digs.

Harding now has a losing record of 8-9. As for St. John, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Harding didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Grand Valley on the 29th. As for St. John, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Pymatuning Valley on the 29th.
