Softball Recap: Birmingham Victorious

While Birmingham's victory against Chatsworth wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Chancellors on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Patriots have posted since March 25th.

The result came thanks to Annabella Venegas's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Bella Gonzalez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Birmingham's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chatsworth, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

Birmingham wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 9-2 loss against Chaminade on the 4th. As for Chatsworth, they will welcome Cleveland at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.17 runs per game on average), something the Chancellors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
