Softball Recap: Northgate Escapes with a Win

Northgate proved they can win big with a 18-run victory on Tuesday. On Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Carrollton Trojans 8-6.

Ella Coburn tossed a big game, tossing 7 innings while giving up 3 earned runs off 10 hits. She also struck out five batters, her most since the 17th.

At the plate, Northgate's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Trinity Hargrett, who went 1-for-3 while logging 2 runs, 1 stolen base, and 1 RBI.

Northgate kept the fielders on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They have not posted that few hits since the 24th, when they had three hits.

Northgate has now won 17 of their last 20 games at home. That run has powered them to a 7-2 record this season. Those home victories were made possible by their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Carrollton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northgate will welcome Eastside at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Carrollton, they will take on Westlake on Tuesday.
