Recap: Mt. Zion Eagles vs. Christian Heritage Lions

The Mt. Zion Eagles fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Christian Heritage Lions on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. Mt. Zion just can't catch a break and has now endured six losses in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Mt. Zion lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sherrod Montgomery jr. Despite the final result, he rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry.

Christian Heritage can attribute much of their success to Carter Triplett, who threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 127 yards. Charlie Idom also helped out with an impressive 104 receiving yards.

Mt. Zion's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.5 points per game. As for Christian Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Zion will take on Bowdon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bowdon will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. Christian Heritage will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Macon County at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th.
